The CTAN 579 Expanded Animation class Fall 2013 visited Pioneer Town in the Morongo Basin of Southern California. Exploring light, sound, nature, and history, the students used iPads and portable sound recording devices to capture their experiences and then made short animations depicting their perceptions of the desert.
The John C Hench Division of Animation and Digital Arts, The University of Southern California and the School of Cinematic Arts proudly hosted the 25th Annual Conference of the Society for Animation Studies in June 2013.
"Genesis" by Joseph Yeh and Frank Gu. A transcendental transexual transformation.
Students at the University of Southern California's six world-class arts schools (Architecture, Cinematic Arts, Dance, Drama, Arts and Design and Music) refine their craft in nighttime labs, theaters and rehearsal rooms all across campus. While other Trojans study or sleep, arts students keep the lights burning as they edit films, practice arias and rock licks, design stage sets and costumes. Watch and listen to dedicated student animators, musicians and dramatic artists during their late-night work sessions.
"Bird and Fish" by Fan Feng. A sand animation about a beautiful bird is concentrating on hunting a fish in the water.
Faculty member Eric Hanson recently provided several key CGI sequences for Griffith Planetarium’s new fulldome visitor film, ìTimeís Upì.
"AniWorld" by Sijia Huang. I made this film for the Expanded Animation final. The combination of very flat two dimensional images to the three dimensional world is my original idea. And the effects of the 3D come from the visor of MAYA.
